Sunday, August 9th - Prague, Czech Republic

Well, i'm sure today's blog will be an exciting one to read.  It is now after 3 p.m. and I really haven't done much and have't left the hotel.  After sitting for six hours in a hot train on Fridy and then standing and walking around a very hot Prague on Saturday, I think my body just said, "enough is enough."

As I type this I am laying (at least my torso and head) on my bed and my feet are up on the dresser at the end of the bed.  My feet seem to have survived okay - at least as good as usual - but my lower legs are red and swollen so up they go.

I did get up and have breakfast and I guess I could talk about that.  As I mentioned earlier we are in a university residence where a small wing is used as a hotel.  The restaurant is down at the main entrance so there are always students (very young students and we are wondering if they are here for summer camps not regular courses) in the atrium.  The restaurant is almost deserted with just a few of us having breakfast, except for the one morning where a bus tour came in all at the same time.  Breakfast includes apple juice, tea or coffee to drink and then some cold cuts and cheese selections, breads, cold hard boiled eggs, sliced peppers and tomatoes, jams and jellies, yogurts, watermelon, cakes and little wieners, which are the only thing hot.  We generally just go for the cold stuff.

Okay, enough about breakfast.  After breakfast I decided to do some laundry.  That's another good thing about a residence.  they have laundry facilities for the students and we get to make use of them.  I left Canada on June 9th and it's now August 9th so doing laundry was becoming pretty necessary.  I can wash things in the sink each night but a good long washing is definitely required.  They have the low water machines here so the wash cycles seem incredibly long.  And they don't have dryers so everything has to be hung up in the laundry room to dry.  While my body may not be appreciating the heat, the clothes certainly dry quickly in it.  I figure everything is probably dry by now.  I've already folded some of it but I haven't been back to the laundry room lately to get the rest.  That may take the rest of the afternoon.

This evening we will probably go out for dinner but just somewhere down the street.  We seem to have a major intersection just a couple blocks down and there are lots of restaurants available.  i don't think we'll go back into the city centre but you never know.  We have a tram stop right outside the building and a metro stop less than two blocks away so it's easy to get around.

Okay it's now time for bed and I can say that by 5 pm the laundry was all totally dry, and that dinner was indeed a slice of pizza from the shop in the next block.  I had my now favourite drink too, a peach ice tea.  It is much nicer than the ice tea and lemon I've had back home, especially for us who don't really like tea to start with.

I'm now back in the room and the breeze is quite nice coming in the window.  I think I have a bit more time for blogging and then it's time for bed so I can start the touring again tomorrow.  And yes, I have my feet up and a cool cloth on them so hopefully they will be all better in morning.  Forecast says temperatures about 36 degrees all week so it will be hot.
