Thursday, September 17th - Pineda de Mar, Spain

Well, this is going to be a pretty boring day to read about - unlike all the other ever-so-exciting days that have come before it.  I was up early again, ate my breakfast and went down to the beach to catch the 9 a.m. boat to Tossa de Mar.  All sailings were again cancelled due to rough seas so I turned around and walked back to the hotel.

I tried to work for a while but I was too tired for that.  I thought about going back to bed but decided that wouldn't work so I put my bathing suit on and went to the pool.  I was too lazy to walk back to the beach and with the rough seas I knew I wouldn't go in swimming anyway so I might as well just go to the pool.  I found a place in the shade and sat for about 4 hours just relaxing and reading.  There was no one else anywhere around so it was very peaceful.  However, I got hungry so had to leave and find food.

I wandered around town a bit after my lunch and did some shopping or at least some looking.  Needless to say it didn't take me long since I really am not a shopper at all.  I did remember to go to the art gallery though (at least I think it was on this day!).  The Fundacio Tharrats d'Art Grafic is a small gallery above the tourist information office.  The first time we were in Pineda de Mar I skipped it and went to the church as it was only open for another half hour.  Randy went to the gallery and said it wasn't much of anything.  Well, I now have to agree with him.  There are perhaps four small rooms with art work in them, all donated by Joan Josep Tharrats who is a Catalan artist and an art collector.  Most of it is modern graphic art - etching, lithograph, etc. - and the results are really not my style.  There are pieces, or at least a piece each by famous people like Miro and Dali, whom I had heard of, and a lot of others.  It was interesting and there were a few that I could actually say that I liked but mainly I could easily pass them by.  However, it is great for a small town to have such an generous donation and be able to have such a gallery.

I went back to the hotel and put my bathing suit back on and went down to the pool area again but this time took my ipad with me.  I sat in the lounge area - actually a very nice area with tables, chairs and umbrellas but no food at this time of year - and did some work for a while, a very short while, and then decided that reading and relaxing at poolside seemed much more exciting so thats where I spent the rest of the afternoon/early evening.

Eventually I went back to my room and changed again and went out for dinner and then came back and ended the day with more blogging and more reading.  Pretty exciting, right?
