Hello, and Happy Thanksgiving!
I know I have been remiss in posting anything but I do have a good reason. I've been busy!!! Well, that's true but it's not the main reason. As soon as I hit China, and before I had a chance to post my Dalian adventures, my computer decided to act up. I've had e-mail access since then but I really can't tie up a computer for the amount of time it takes me to write a blog.
Dalian was good on the 3rd but a bit wet - the only rainy day of a three-week cruise so not bad. I didn't see much of Beijing on the 4th but that will come later on my land tour. My plan was to do a lot of writing that afternoon after we got to the hotel (over a three-hour bus ride from port) and book my hotel for the next few nights and get all caught up on e-mail. But that's when the computer decided to go berserk and I really haven't used it since.
I flew to Taipei, Taiwan on the 5th and will be here until the 11th. I did a two-day trip to Sun Moon Lake in central Taiwan but otherwise have been in Taipei enjoying the sights. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial today, which was really interesting because there were thousands of young people out in the square marching/dancing/flag waving/doing martial arts demonstrations and doing dragon dances. Tomorrow, the 10th already over here, is Taiwan's Independence Day so this is a long holiday weekend and big celebrations are planned everywhere. I walked back to the hotel tonight past the Presidential Office Building that you can hardly see for all the scaffolding, backdrops and VIP stands for tomorrow's parade. Then went to the Taiwan Museum before heading home. Yesterday I did the National Palace Museum, which was huge and took about 8 hours. Today was much easier. Have also been to the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. I have to admit that was by mistake and I thought I was going to the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall but something got lost in the translation. Oh well, I needed an education about the man anyway because I had no idea who he was and he turned out to be rather important.
Weather over here is hot and humid. It is about 30 degrees and about 80% humidity. And the sun hasn't even been out for the past two days! Taipei is very crowded at all times so I'm not sure how I'll survive tomorrow when everyone comes to Taipei for the big party. I may have to stay away, although it would be nice to be there for at least part of it. This is their 99th year so next year will be the really big party - although 10-10-10 is a pretty good reason to celebrate as well.
Okay, that just might have to be my blog for this week's activities. If I get some computer time I may expand on these activities but for now that's it. Enjoy your turkey!

I've been wondering how your computer was doing; glad to see you are posting on the blog so we know all is well with you. The trip is sounding good - although with the toilets and spending time (& enjoying!!) a fish market I'm not ready to pack my bags. AlthoughI won't be doing any travelling for quite some time as we've just made a major purchase in GB. Thanksgiving dinner for 10 at your place was apparently quite good.
